This new generation backpacking boot by Salomon features protection, comfort and stability designed from the most advanced trail running technologies. The Quest stays true to a trail runner approach but provides more support by having a high rise, rubber toe and heel cap, and by using a 4D chassis. Salomon's trail runners incorporate a wider heel base to assist in balance when encountering rocks and roots on the trail. Great light hiking boots
Salomon doesn't really do a bad shoe and this one is no exception. These are lighter hiking boots but have certainly more support than their trail running shoes. They seem to be built on the same platform as they lighter shoes, but from what I've learned there an extra element in the sole that makes them sturdier and provides better support. Upper is nice and functional, with a waterproof membrane I have yet to get to a condition where they wouldn't work. I am using them mostly for hiking and backpacking, but I'd feel confident taking them up to some easier mountaineering too. Good comfortable fit, toebox seems to be of a medium width and works great for me. Very little break-in time, no blisters and no issues even on my first hike. Very happy with the boots.
Solid
These are some solid hiking boots. Even though they are not as stiff and heavy as some of the other boots, they provide just enough support for what I'm doing. One- to two-day hikes with not much gear is all I ever do, so I really didn't want a boot that would weight 10 lbs. and will make me too fatigued at the end of the day. These really feel closer to Salomon's trail running shoes than to heavy-duty hiking boots, but as I said they do have good amount of support to get you through the day.
