The Olympic Movement, sometimes referred to as Olympism, is a philosophical ardour for live and the uncompromising pursuit of excellence. The modern Olympic Games began in Athens, Greece, in 1896. The French educator Pierre de Coubertin proposed that the Olympic Games should be revived to promote a more peaceful world. Coubertin formulated these thoughts in the Olympic Charter; "The goal of the Olympic Movement is to contribute to building a peaceful and better world by educating youth through sport practiced without discrimination of any kind, in a spirit of friendship, solidarity, and fair play." The Olympic Movement conveys these ideas every day reaching worldwide, promoting culture, human development, international education and peace through sport.
